Trekking – Esmeralda Lagoon
Activity description
This excursion is a classic of the End of the World: an accessible hike to the lagoon whose name reflects its beautiful color.
We will pick you up from your accommodation and head along National Route No. 3 to the starting point, where we will prepare for the hike along a 4.5 km trail to the lagoon. The estimated duration from the trailhead to the lagoon is about 2 hours, during which we will cross forests, peat valleys, rivers, and mountains.
We will follow the Esmeralda River until reaching our destination. The lagoon gets its name from the emerald color caused by sediments from the Ojo del Albino Glacier, and this is the best time of year to admire it. While enjoying this stunning landscape, we will recharge with a box lunch before heading back along the same trail, allowing us to once again appreciate the beauty and capture new angles of an unforgettable day.
Once the hike is completed, we will return to the vehicle and head back to Ushuaia to rest after this 9 km trek (round trip).
