Beagle Channel Navigation – Yacht
Activity description
Join us for an incredible journey through the challenging Beagle Channel to observe Fuegian birdlife at Bird Island (Isla de los Pájaros) and Sea Lion Island (Isla de los Lobos), as well as the famous Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse for that iconic postcard memory.
Our fleet consists of two 15-meter ‘Grand Banks’ yachts, fully equipped for a safe experience and meeting all safety standards required by the Argentine Naval Prefecture.
These vessels have been specially modified for sightseeing: the bow features three deck levels for close-up photography, and a flybridge (terrace) to enjoy the sun and the southern air. The heated interior offers ample space for all passengers and includes two restrooms.
The tour begins at the local port, heading toward Alicia Island to observe a colony of South American sea lions. We then set sail for Bird Island, home to colonies of King and Imperial cormorants.
Next, we head east to another small island where, depending on the season, South American fur seals can be found. Nearby stands the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, a legitimate symbol of Ushuaia built in 1919. From there, we can observe Rock cormorants with great precision.
On the way back, we will disembark at Bridges Island for a guided walk along an interpretive trail to learn about local flora, birdlife, and the history of the native Yámana people. This island houses the largest anthropogenic shell middens (concheros) in the region. As the largest island in the area, we will reach its highest viewpoint to admire the grandeur of the Beagle Channel with the city of Ushuaia in the background.
Throughout the voyage, we will share coffee, a variety of teas, or a delicious hot chocolate to keep you warm.
