Navigation Beagle Channel – Yate
Activity description
Come and enjoy an incredible navigation through the challenging Beagle Channel to observe Fuegian birdlife at Bird Island and Sea Lion Island, as well as the famous Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse, taking home an iconic postcard with the imposing snow-capped Andes as a backdrop.
The vessels are two 15-meter “Grand Banks” yachts, fully equipped to ensure a safe experience, with all safety elements required by the Argentine Naval Prefecture.
These boats have been specially adapted for maximum comfort. The bow features three deck levels for close-up photography, and a flybridge (terrace) where you can enjoy the sun and the southern air. The interior is heated, spacious, and includes two bathrooms.
Our journey begins at the local port, heading first to Alicia Island, where we will observe a colony of South American sea lions. We then continue to Bird Island, home to colonies of Imperial and Rock Cormorants.
Next, we sail east toward another small island where, depending on the season, we may see South American fur seals. Nearby is the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse (“The Beacons”), an iconic symbol of Ushuaia built in 1919. From there, we can also observe the rock cormorant colony more closely.
On the return, we disembark at Bridges Island to walk a nature interpretation trail focused on local flora, birdlife, and the history of the native Yámana people. This island contains some of the largest Yámana shell middens in the region. As the largest island in the area, we will also reach a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the vast Beagle Channel with Ushuaia in the background.
During the excursion, we will enjoy coffee with liqueur, a selection of teas, hot chocolate with cookies, and of course traditional Argentine mate to warm up during the winter cold.
