National Park – Conventional
Activity description
If you came to Ushuaia, you can’t leave without visiting Tierra del Fuego National Park, an ideal place to connect with nature and the history of the “End of the World” city. Created in 1960, it is the southernmost protected natural area of the Argentine Republic, covering 68,909 hectares. Part of the Andean-Patagonian system of protected areas, it borders Chile to the west. It is the only national park in the country with a marine coastline, as its southern edge is washed by the Beagle Channel. It combines ancient lenga, guindo, and ñire forests, peat bogs, lakes, and valleys. Without a doubt, a unique place to visit and admire.
Departing from the city around 9:00 AM, we will take National Route No. 3 heading southwest, passing the base of Mount Susana. The first stop will be the station of the “End of the World Train” (*), an optional activity for all passengers. The train follows the original route of the old prisoner train, allowing visitors to learn about its history (it is recommended to visit the Presidio Museum beforehand). Along the way, you can see a reconstructed indigenous camp and a natural waterfall called “Macarena Waterfall.”
The train then enters 4.5 km into the park. During the ride, we enjoy unique landscapes featuring rivers, waterfalls, forests, mountains, and peat bogs. This train ride lasts about one hour, and those who choose not to take it can enjoy a short walk through the Fuegian forest before continuing the tour with the group.
Continuing the excursion, we will visit several panoramic viewpoints to admire the flora and fauna, as well as the Beagle Channel and its mountainous islands. We will visit Lake Acigami (or Roca Lake), shared with Chile, and Lapataia Bay, where we can take photos at the famous sign marking the end of National Route No. 3.
