National Park – Conventional

Activity description

If you made it all the way to Ushuaia, you cannot leave without visiting Tierra del Fuego National Park, an ideal place to connect with nature and the history of the city at the end of the world. Created in 1960, it is the southernmost protected natural area in Argentina, covering 68,909 hectares. Part of the Andean-Patagonian system of protected areas, its western boundary borders Chile. It is the only national park in the country with marine coastline, as its southern edge is washed by the Beagle Channel. The park combines ancient forests of lenga, guindo, and ñire trees, peat bogs, lakes, and valleys—without a doubt, a unique place to contemplate.

Departing from the city at approximately 9:00 am, we will take National Route No. 3 southwest, passing by the base of Mount Susana. Our first stop will be at the End of the World Train station, an optional excursion for all passengers. The train departs from the station using the original embankment of what was once the prisoners’ train, allowing visitors to learn about its history (a prior visit to the Prison Museum is recommended). Along the way, you can see a reconstruction of an indigenous camp and a natural waterfall called Macarena Waterfall.

The train then travels 4.5 km inside the park. During the journey, you will enjoy unparalleled landscapes featuring rivers, waterfalls, forests, mountains, and peat bogs. The train ride lasts about one hour. Those who choose not to take the train can enjoy a short walk through the Fuegian forests before continuing deeper into the park with the rest of the group.

Continuing the tour, we will head to various panoramic viewpoints to admire the flora and fauna, as well as views of the Beagle Channel and its mountainous islands. We will visit Lake Acigami (also known as Lake Roca), which is shared with Chile, and Lapataia Bay, where you can take photos at the famous sign marking the end of National Route No. 3.
